# Get Agent

> Read one agent's name, description and link.

> **Preview.** This endpoint is available to organisations in the Wordsmith MCP pilot. Other organisations receive `403 mcp_not_enabled`. See the [preview overview](/preview).

Returns one agent. An agent is a legal AI specialist set up for a kind of legal work. The fields match the items [List Agents](/api-reference/agents/list-agents) returns, plus `url`, which opens the agent in Wordsmith.

Use the `id` to ask the agent a question with [Create Question](/api-reference/agents/create-question), or to filter [List Sessions](/api-reference/sessions/list-sessions).

## Authentication

Requires an API key, or an OAuth token with `agents:read`.

## Path parameters

**agent\_id** `string` *required*

The agent id, from [List Agents](/api-reference/agents/list-agents), or `"default"` for the general Wordsmith agent.

## Response

Returns `200` with the agent.

**id** `string` *required*

The agent id.

**name** `string` *required*

The agent's display name.

**description** `string`

What the agent is set up to do.

**url** `string`

Opens the agent in Wordsmith. `null` for a workspace-only agent, which has no agent page.

## Errors

| Status | `error_code` | When |
| - | - | - |
| 400 | `bad_request` | `agent_id` is neither an id nor `"default"`. |
| 404 | `resource_not_found` | No agent with this id, or the caller cannot read it. |
