# Get Blueprint

> Read a blueprint and the placeholders you fill to draft a document from it.

Returns one [blueprint](/proposed/objects#blueprint) with its `placeholders`. A blueprint is a document with placeholders that you fill to draft a new contract.

[List Blueprints](/api-reference/blueprints/list-blueprints) returns only each blueprint's `id`, `name` and `description`. Call this endpoint to see which values a document needs. Then pass the blueprint to [Create Draft](/api-reference/drafts/create-draft), with the values you know and any context for the rest.

The placeholders are those of the published version, which is the one a draft fills. Each placeholder's `key` is the name you use in `values`. `type` tells you the format the value takes:

| - | - |
| `text` | A string. |
| `boolean` | `true` or `false`. Usually switches an optional clause on or off. |
| `choice` | One of the strings in `options`. |
| `multi_choice` | A list of strings from `options`. |
| `table` | Rows of values, one object per row. |

## Authentication

Requires an API key, or an OAuth token with `blueprints:read`. Tokens granted the older `templates:read` scope keep working.

## Path parameters

**blueprint\_id** `string` *required*

The blueprint id, from [List Blueprints](/api-reference/blueprints/list-blueprints).

## Response

Returns `200` with the [blueprint](/proposed/objects#blueprint).
