# List Invites

> List the invites sent to join your organisation.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Preview.** This endpoint is available to organisations in the Wordsmith MCP pilot. Other organisations receive `403 mcp_not_enabled`. See the [preview overview](/preview).

Lists the [invites](/proposed/objects#organisation) sent to join your organisation, newest first. Filter by `status` to find the invites still waiting for an answer.

An invite is `pending` until the invitee accepts it, an admin revokes it, or it passes `expires_at`. Invites last 30 days. [Resend Invite](/api-reference/organisation/resend-invite) emails a pending invite again and extends it.

The response never includes the join link. The link works like a password for joining your organisation, so Wordsmith only sends it to the invitee's inbox.

## Authentication

Requires an API key, or an OAuth token with `directory:admin`. The caller must also be an organisation admin, or hold a role with the matching permission. `directory:admin` is never granted by default. It only narrows what the person who approved it can already do, so a team admin's token can edit their own teams and nothing else. Admin changes are not available through the MCP server.

Inviting is an admin action, so reading the invite list needs the admin scope too.

## Query parameters

**status** `enum`

Return only invites in this state: `pending`, `accepted` or `expired`. Leave it out for all of them.

**cursor** `string`

The `cursor` from the previous page.

**limit** `integer` (default: 50)

Invites per page, up to 200.

## Response

Returns `200` with a page of [invites](/proposed/objects#organisation). `invited_by` is the id of the member who sent the invite.

```bash cURL theme={null}
curl "https://api.wordsmith.ai/api/v1/invites?status=pending&limit=50" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk-ws-api1-your_api_key_here"
```

```json Response theme={null}
{
  "items": [
    {
      "id": "df242ffe-393a-4615-9164-019b295c9641",
      "email": "dana.okafor@example.com",
      "predefined_roles": ["full_user"],
      "custom_role_ids": [],
      "status": "pending",
      "invited_by": "4c98ef69-d5ef-4471-a2b8-89ded5b7b121",
      "created_at": "2026-10-13T09:30:00Z",
      "expires_at": "2026-11-12T09:30:00Z"
    }
  ],
  "cursor": null
}
```

## Errors

| Status | `error_code` | When |
| - | - | - |
| 400 | `bad_request` | `status` is not one of the three above, `limit` is outside 1 to 200, or `cursor` is not valid. |
| 403 | `insufficient_scope` | The OAuth token does not hold `directory:admin`. |
| 403 | `forbidden` | The caller is not an organisation admin and holds no role that can view invites. |
