# Resend Invite

> Email a pending invite again and extend how long it stays valid.

Emails a pending or expired [invite](/proposed/objects#organisation) to the invitee again. An accepted invite cannot be resent. The invite keeps its id and its join link, so an earlier email still works. `expires_at` moves to 30 days from now.

Wordsmith checks the invite's roles again before sending. If a role was turned off or deleted since the invite went out, the resend fails, because the invitee could not accept it. Revoke the invite and create a new one with current roles.

## Authentication

Requires an API key, or an OAuth token with `directory:admin`. The caller must also be an organisation admin, or hold a role with the matching permission. `directory:admin` is never granted by default. It only narrows what the person who approved it can already do, so a team admin's token can edit their own teams and nothing else. Admin changes are not available through the MCP server.

Resending needs both the permission to see invites and the permission to invite. An invite that carries a custom role also needs the permission to assign roles.

## Response

Returns `200` with the [invite](/proposed/objects#organisation) and its new `expires_at`.

## Errors

| Status | `error_code` | When |
| - | - | - |
| 400 | `bad_request` | A role on the invite was turned off or deleted since it was sent: revoke it and invite again. Also returned when the invite was accepted, and for an invite too old to resend because it predates how Wordsmith now stores join links. |
| 403 | `insufficient_scope` | The OAuth token does not hold `directory:admin`. |
| 403 | `forbidden` | The caller cannot invite members. Also returned when the invite carries a custom role and the caller cannot assign roles. |
| 404 | `resource_not_found` | No invite in your organisation has this id. |
