# Revoke Invite

> Cancel a pending invite so its join link stops working.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Preview.** This endpoint is available to organisations in the Wordsmith MCP pilot. Other organisations receive `403 mcp_not_enabled`. See the [preview overview](/preview).

Revokes a pending [invite](/proposed/objects#organisation). The join link stops working at once and the invite is deleted, so reading it afterwards returns `404`. You cannot undo this; create a new invite instead.

Only invites that were not accepted can be revoked, expired ones included. To remove someone who already joined, suspend them with [Update Member](/api-reference/organisation/update-member).

## Authentication

Requires an API key, or an OAuth token with `directory:admin`. The caller must also be an organisation admin, or hold a role with the matching permission. `directory:admin` is never granted by default. It only narrows what the person who approved it can already do, so a team admin's token can edit their own teams and nothing else. Admin changes are not available through the MCP server.

## Path parameters

**invite\_id** `string` *required*

The invite id, from [List Invites](/api-reference/organisation/list-invites).

## Response

Returns `204` with no body.

```bash cURL theme={null}
curl -X DELETE "https://api.wordsmith.ai/api/v1/invites/df242ffe-393a-4615-9164-019b295c9641" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk-ws-api1-your_api_key_here"
```

```text Response theme={null}
204 No Content
```

## Errors

| Status | `error_code` | When |
| - | - | - |
| 403 | `insufficient_scope` | The OAuth token does not hold `directory:admin`. |
| 403 | `forbidden` | The caller is not an organisation admin and holds no role that can revoke invites. |
| 404 | `resource_not_found` | No invite in your organisation has this id. |
| 400 | `bad_request` | The invite was already accepted. |
