# Delete Check

> Remove a check from a playbook.

> **Preview.** This endpoint is available to organisations in the Wordsmith MCP pilot. Other organisations receive `403 mcp_not_enabled`. See the [preview overview](/preview).

Removes one [check](/proposed/objects#playbook-and-check) from a playbook. Reviews that start after this call no longer run it.

Past reviews keep their findings for the check, including its `id` and `name`. Deletes are REST-only: no MCP tool deletes a check.

## Authentication

Requires an API key, or an OAuth token with `playbooks:write`.

## Path parameters

**playbook\_id** `string` *required*

The playbook that holds the check.

**check\_id** `string` *required*

The check to remove.

## Response

Returns `204 No Content` with no body.

## Errors

| Status | `error_code` | When |
| - | - | - |
| 403 | `forbidden` | The caller can read the playbook but not edit it, or it is a global playbook. |
| 404 | `resource_not_found` | No playbook or check with these ids, or the caller cannot read the playbook. |
