# Get Playbook

> Read a playbook and the checks a review runs against a document.

> **Preview.** This endpoint is available to organisations in the Wordsmith MCP pilot. Other organisations receive `403 mcp_not_enabled`. See the [preview overview](/preview).

Returns one [playbook](/proposed/objects#playbook-and-check) with its `checks`. A playbook is a saved set of checks. A [playbook review](/api-reference/reviews/create-review) runs each check against a document and reports a finding for it.

[List Playbooks](/api-reference/playbooks/list-playbooks) returns only each playbook's `id`, `name` and `description`. Call this endpoint to read the checks.

`checks` come back in the order a review runs them. You can read your organisation's playbooks and any global playbook you have access to.

## Authentication

Requires an API key, or an OAuth token with `playbooks:read`.

## Path parameters

**playbook\_id** `string` *required*

The playbook id, from [List Playbooks](/api-reference/playbooks/list-playbooks) or [Create Playbook](/api-reference/playbooks/create-playbook).

## Response

Returns `200` with the [playbook](/proposed/objects#playbook-and-check).
