# Delete Column

> Delete a column and its cells from a report.

> **Preview.** This endpoint is available to organisations in the Wordsmith MCP pilot. Other organisations receive `403 mcp_not_enabled`. See the [preview overview](/preview).

Deletes one column from a report, with every cell in it.

This endpoint is REST only. No MCP tool deletes a column.

## Authentication

Requires an API key, or an OAuth token with `reports:write`. As in the app, the caller needs permission to delete the report, not only to edit it.

## Path parameters

**report\_id** `string` *required*

The report id.

**column\_id** `string` *required*

The column id.

## Response

Returns `204` with no body.

## Errors

| Status | `error_code` | When |
| - | - | - |
| 403 | `forbidden` | The caller can read the report but cannot delete it. |
| 404 | `resource_not_found` | No report or column with these ids, or the caller cannot read the report. |
