# Get Repository

> Read a repository, including its document count and indexing state.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Preview.** This endpoint is available to organisations in the Wordsmith MCP pilot. Other organisations receive `403 mcp_not_enabled`. See the [preview overview](/preview).

Returns one repository. `indexing_status` tells you whether documents are still being indexed.

To list the documents themselves, use [List Documents](/api-reference/repositories/list-documents).

## Authentication

Requires an API key, or an OAuth token with `repositories:read`.

## Path parameters

**repository\_id** `string` *required*

The repository id.

## Response

Returns `200` with the repository.

**indexing\_status** `string`

`idle` once every document is indexed, `indexing` while any document is still waiting, `failed` when any document could not be indexed.

The other fields are the ones [List Repositories](/api-reference/repositories/list-repositories) returns.
