# Get Session

> Read one conversation's title, agent and message count.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Preview.** This endpoint is available to organisations in the Wordsmith MCP pilot. Other organisations receive `403 mcp_not_enabled`. See the [preview overview](/preview).

Returns one [session](/proposed/objects#session-and-message): its agent, title, message count and a link that opens it in Wordsmith. Read its messages with [List Messages](/api-reference/sessions/list-messages).

The `session_id` is the same id that [Create Question](/api-reference/agents/create-question) returns. You can read any session you could open in the Wordsmith app, including one shared with you.

## Authentication

Requires an API key, or an OAuth token with `sessions:read`.

## Path parameters

**session\_id** `string` *required*

The session id.

## Response

Returns `200` with the session: the fields of a [List Sessions](/api-reference/sessions/list-sessions) item, plus `message_count`.

**message\_count** `integer`

The number of messages [List Messages](/api-reference/sessions/list-messages) returns: each question and each answer counts as one.
